TYLERTOWN— Services for Roy Smith Rushing, 85, of Ferriday, who died Sunday, July 14, 2019, at Merit Health Natchez, will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at New Bethel Primitive Baptist Church in Tylertown with the Rev. Wayne Painter officiating.
Burial will follow at the Tylertown Cemetery under the direction of Hartman-Hughes Funeral Home in Tylertown.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Mr. Rushing was born Sept. 9, 1933, in Tylertown, the son of Herman James Rushing and Lessie Smith Rushing.
Mr. Roy started Rushing Boots and Shoe Repair in Ferriday. He loved spending time and telling stories and jokes to his customers. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. Mr. Roy never seemed to meet a stranger and was well known and loved by the community. He was a good man, a good person and a good friend that will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Roy Dale Rushing Sr.; six brothers, Jerry Rushing, Paul Rushing, Bill Rushing, Herman Rushing and infant brother, Willie Elijah Rushing; and one sister, Sarah Sagor.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Rachel Rushing; two grandsons, R.D. Rushing Jr. and wife, Jessica, of Ferriday and Blaise Rushing of Sicily Island; one granddaughter, Victoria Rushing of Houston; one great-granddaughter, Lydia Faye Rushing of Ferriday; one brother, Donald Rushing of Brookhaven; four sisters, Joyce Odom, Lessie Mae Rawls, Beth Morrow and husband, Jim, and Maureen Spence and husband, Harlan; and a number of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Steve Rushing, Eddie Rushing, Robert Jenkins, Keith Holmes, Keith Smith and Wesley Douglas Sr.
