PURVIS — Services for Albert Lamar Nettles, 88, of Purvis, who died on Memorial Day, May 27, 2019, at 7:30 p.m., surrounded by family and loved ones, were 1 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2019, at Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home Purvis Chapel.
Burial followed at Coaltown Cemetery under the direction of Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home.
Albert lived a long and fruitful life that began Oct. 18, 1930, sharing many loving memories with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He bravely served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War in the summer of 1953. During his time of service, Albert was awarded a number of medals for his sacrifices.
He was the owner of The Barn Restaurant in Deer Park, a paint contractor and an entrepreneur of business. He was also a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Eddiceton.
Nettles was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Elizabeth Nettles; one brother, Charles Ralph Nettles; and two sisters, Flora Aline Nettles and Carolyn Elizabeth Nettles-Smith.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Betty Sue Nettles; two sons, Kenneth Lamar Nettles and wife, Linda, of Gulf Shores, Ala., and Paul Eugene Nettles and wife, Jane, of Purvis; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
