Remember why we celebrate

Today is Good Friday, the day that millions of Christians around the globe remember the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ.
The horrible death of Christ on a cross seems like a rather awful set of circumstances to reference as being “good.”
But for Christians, they believe the death was a necessary, along with the resurrection, to fulfill God’s plan for saving people from their sin.
Much symbolism is placed around the cross on which Jesus was executed. That symbolism is well placed because of the amazing events that happened on Easter so long ago.
A powerful message of Christian faith around the cross was seen this week in a single image that was taken in Paris.
The image, the first publicly released after fire ravaged portions of the Notre Dame Cathedral, shows an almost glowing cross on the church’s altar.
Skeptics might say it was just a coincidence that the piles of burning embers did not land on the cross.
We tend to think it may have been a divine sign aimed at focusing attention on God’s power.
As we enter this weekend of Christian remembrance, let’s all remember that Easter isn’t about bunnies, eggs or candy, but about a sacrificial gift that fulfilled biblical prophesy and changed the world.
