NATCHEZ — The Cathedral Green Wave visited The Adams County Christian School Rebels Wednesday and were able to win the game by a score of 7-4.
Today they will play again, only at Cathedral’s place, Chester Willis Field. Game time is 5 p.m. today for a doubleheader.
In Wednesday’s game, Sam Mosby got the ball and started the game for Cathedral on the mound.
In the Green Wave top of the second inning with two outs and a man on, with Cathedral leading 1-0 and batting, Mosby got ahold of one and knocked it over the left field fence for a two-run homerun.
In order to save Mosby to pitch today, he was pulled after two innings and 34 pitches, per the pitch count rule, to be able to come back and pitch the next day.
Landon Lees came in to pitch with a 4-0 lead, and he got some work in.
Ben Foster got the ball next to throw an inning, then Cathedral moved Conner Murray out from behind the plate and put him on the mound to save the game for Cathedral, who had the lead 7-3.
The Rebels in their last bat had something cooking to make the Green Wave pay close attention.
They got runners on base and got one home. However, with one out Murray was able to get a pop out and another fly ball out to end the game 7-4.
Tripp Cotten started the game for ACCS and went two innings and some change before giving the ball off to Rhett McDonald.
The two teams proved to be evenly matched with several underclassmen on both sides, who will be playing for the next three years and some for four more years.
Cathedral and ACCS lined up and slapped hands after the game knowing they are going to see each other again today.
“I thought Sam Mosby had a great game. He hit a two-run homerun and did an outstanding job of pitching,” Cathedral head coach Craig Beesley said. “Our record is 9 and 10, and we want to finish with a winning record. We are not in the district playoffs. We just have the two games left tomorrow.”
For ACCS their record is 6 and 9, and they will not go to district playoffs either.
