Former Cathedral standout named Sun Belt Player of Week

MONROE, La. — Former Cathedral standout and University of Louisiana at Monroe junior Andrew Beesley was named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week for the week of April 1 to April 7.
Beesley helped pace the Warhawks offensively as ULM finished 3-1 on a four-game road trip, including a three-game sweep of SBC foe Georgia State in Atlanta.
Beesley tallied four multi-hit games in the week and doubled his number of extra-base hits on the season. Beesley finished 9-for-17 (.529) at the plate with three doubles, a home run, four RBIs, five runs scored, four walks and two stolen bases.
Overall, Beesley tallied a .619 on base percentage and an .882 slugging percentage for the week.
Beesley opened his week with a pair of hits, including a double, a run scored and a steal at No. 5 Mississippi State on Wednesday. He followed it up with a 3-for-5 game on Friday at Georgia State, hitting a two-run home run in the first inning. He also scored three times and walked once on Friday night. On Saturday, Beesley finished 2-for-4 with two walks and a steal. He wrapped up the week on Sunday with a pair of RBI doubles, one down each line, to help the Warhawks build an early 7-1 lead on their way to a 9-3 victory. He also drew another walk and scored a run.
Beesley is the first Warhawk to earn Player of the Week or Pitcher of the Week recognition from the SBC this season.
Beesley is the son of Cathedral head baseball coach Craig Beesley and Margaret Beesley.
