Join us at Trinity for Lent programs

The annual season of Lent is upon us, the 40 days leading up Easter. As we experience springtime and a rebirth of nature all around us, we are also encouraged to grow spiritually and experience a reawakening of our relationship with God in the days leading up to the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Trinity Episcopal Church at 305 South Commerce Street will offer a number of special programs during Lent to assist with this annual spiritual reawakening, and the public is welcome to attend.

On Wednesday evenings, after the 5:30 weekly healing service in the church, there will be a light soup supper offered in the parish hall free of charge, followed by a presentation by the parish rector, the Rev. Ken Ritter. This series is titled, “Return from Exile: Overcoming Loss, Failure & Personal Setbacks.” The presentations will take place on March 13, 20, 27 and April 10.

On Monday evenings a walking of the “Stations of the Cross” will be offered in the church. This is an ancient practice of prayers and devotions that symbolically walks participants through the historical events after the Last Supper on Thursday evening of Holy Week, culminating in the crucifixion of Jesus and laying of his body in the tomb.

The service will be offered at 6 p.m. on March 18 and 25, on April 1 and 8, and finally at 11 a.m. on Good Friday, April 19.

During Holy Week (from Palm Sunday to Easter Day), the church is offering a variety of opportunities for worship and contemplation: the special Palm Sunday service at 10 a.m. on April 14, noonday prayer at 12 p.m. on Monday, April 15, a screening of “The Passion of the Christ” at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Tuesday April 16, the regular healing service at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday April 17, Maundy Thursday Service (with foot washing) at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, Good Friday Service at noon on Friday April 19, Easter Vigil Service at 3 p.m. at Christ Church, Church Hill — and at 7:30 p.m. at Trinity Church Natchez — on Saturday, April 20, and, finally, Easter Sunday Service at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity on Sunday, April 21.

Everyone is welcome to join the Trinity Church family as we walk this pilgrim journey of reflection, meditation, worship and service over the course of the next few weeks.
