CLINTON, La. — Shelby Mason finished with a season-high 25 points and Danyel Weir added 22 points as the Adams County Christian School Lady Rebels took care of the Silliman Institute Lady Wildcats 62-51 Monday night in an MAIS District 5-AAA game.

ACCS knew the worst that could happen for it to claim the No. 1 seed for the district tournament in the girls’ bracket was to lose by no more than four points. But instead of playing nervous and letting the pressure get to them, especially on the road in the regular-season finale, the Lady Rebels took control early and for the most part never let up.

With Mason and Weir leading the charge, the Lady Rebels jumped out to a 20-11 lead after one quarter of play. They kept Silliman at arms’ length in the second quarter, outscoring the Lady Wildcats 13-11 for a 33-22 halftime lead.

Silliman did get back in the game by outscoring ACCS 18-10 in the third quarter to cut the Lady Rebels’ lead down to three points, 43-40. But the home team could not carry that momentum into the fourth quarter as the Lady Wildcats scored just 11 points while the Lady Rebels put up 19 points. Ashton Siebert led the Lady Wildcats with 17 points.

ACCS (6-14, 6-0) will next play in the MAIS District 5-AAA Tournament at Cathedral School at a time to be determined on Friday against an opponent to be determined.

CLINTON, La. — Ben LeJeune led all scorers with 16 points as the Silliman Institute Wildcats held on for a 39-35 victory over the Adams County Christian School Rebels Monday night in an MAIS District 5-AAA game.

Silliman controlled the pace of the game during the first three quarters. The Wildcats’ defense held ACCS to single-digit scoring in each of those quarters. They raced out to a 17-7 lead over the Rebels at the end of the first quarter and then had an 8-7 edge in the second quarter and a 10-9 advantage in the third quarter for what seemed to be a commanding 35-23 cushion.

But the Rebels would not go away quietly. Despite not having a single player score in double figures in the game, ACCS fought valiantly and outscored Silliman 12-4 over the final eight minutes. But it was not quite enough to get over the hump.

Glaston Magee led the Rebels with eight points while Jonathan Ratcliff and Yohan Thompson added six points apiece.

ACCS (2-18, 1-5) next plays in the MAIS District 5-AAA Tournament at Cathedral against Central Private School at a time to be determined on Friday.

NATCHEZ — The Cathedral High School Lady Green Wave fought hard with Central Private School for three quarters, but the Lady Rebels seized the momentum for good in the fourth quarter for a 40-27 win Monday night in MAIS District 5-AAA action.

On Senior Night at Cathedral, the Lady Green Wave was looking to finally notch that elusive win in district play. And it looked like they were headed in that direction after getting out to an 11-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.

But Central Private started its rally in the second quarter as it outscored the Lady Green Wave 11-4 to take a 17-15 lead into halftime. The third quarter was a defensive struggle with the Lady Rebels scoring nine points while holding the Lady Green Wave to seven points for a 26-22 advantage.

Then came the fourth quarter and Cathedral’s offense sputtered once again. The Lady Rebels took advantage of the situation and outscored the Lady Green Wave 14-5.

Sally Ann Torreos led a balanced scoring attack for Central Private with 11 points. Baylee Graning led the Lady Green Wave with a game-high 13 points.

Cathedral (5-20, 0-6) next plays in the MAIS District 5-AAA Tournament that it will host starting Friday at a time to be determined against an opponent to be determined.

Cathedral led Central Private 8-7 after one quarter of play before the Rebels outscored the Green Wave 16-6 in the second quarter for a 23-14 lead at intermission. The second half saw Central Private’s lead grow into double digits and there was nothing Cathedral could do about it.

J.C. Harris led the Green Wave with 10 points while Sam Mosby added nine points and Colby Passman chipped in with seven points.

Cathedral (7-18, 2-4) will take on Silliman Institute at a time to be determined on Friday at the MAIS District 5-AAA Tournament, which will take place at Cathedral.

Monterey girls 45, Glenmora 42 (OT)

MONTEREY — Andy Gray and Harlie Murray led Monterey High School with 13 points and the Lady Wolves needed every one of them as they overcame a shaky first quarter to defeat the Glenmora High School Lady Wildcats 45-42 in overtime Monday night in an LHSAA District 5-B game.

When the first quarter was over, it looked like Glenmora was going to take control of the action after jumping out to an 8-1 lead. But Monterey refused to let that happen on its home court as the Lady Wolves stormed back thanks to a 15-8 advantage in the second quarter to make it a 16-16 game at halftime.

The Lady Wildcats outscored the Lady Wolves 12-9 in the third quarter for a 28-25 lead, but the Lady Wolves answered with a 14-11 edge in the fourth quarter to send the game into overtime tied at 39 apiece. Monterey squeaked by Glenmora 6-3 in the extra session.

Monterey (20-6, 3-1) returns to action today when it hosts Oak Hill High School at 5:30 p.m.
