Under watchful eye of mom

When momma is watching, everyone behaves a little better. That’s a lesson most of us learned as children.
That childhood lesson is being re-learned by adults aiming to lower crime in Natchez.
With high-tech security cameras, monitored at all hours, momma never turns her back or goes to sleep.
Only a handful of cameras have been installed in one of the area’s high-crime areas, but already they’ve aided in arresting criminals, law enforcement officers say.
Cameras through a non-profit group called Project NOLA have been installed around Holiday Apartments.
Plans call for additional cameras at other areas throughout the city to help curb violent crime.
The cameras appear to be a great way to help our understaffed police force keep constant watch.
Last year’s violence in Natchez was of epic proportions with more than a dozen people being murdered.
We applaud city and county law enforcement as well as city leaders for encouraging more widespread use of cameras.
In addition, private property owners — both residential as well as commercial — can also help by purchasing cameras as part of this project.
Together, with the aid of a little technology, we can help drive the criminal element out of our community.
If we can accomplish that, many mommas in our community would be proud and some mommas would still have sons to hug a few years from now.
