BILOXI — A memorial service for James “Doc” McCollum Sr., 93, who died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2019, in Biloxi, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 274 Beauvoir Road in Biloxi.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Doc was born in Kosciusko, the son of Orise McCollum and Martha McCool McCollum.
He was originally from Port Gibson, lived in Natchez for the majority of his life and has lived on the Mississippi Gulf Coast for the last nine years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and worked as a funeral director for more than 25 years at Guion Funeral Home. He also worked as a vehicle representative at two different dealerships in Natchez. He was a duke in the Krewe of Phoenix in Natchez in 1994 and was a very avid Ole Miss and Saints fan. He was also very much a people person.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Lena Frances Ammons.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Mary “Lil” McCollum; one son, James McCollum Jr. and wife, Deborah, of Mandeville, La.; two stepdaughters, Tere Rodriguez and husband, Dan, of Billings, Mont., and Shere Murray of Biloxi; six grandchildren, Brandon McCollum, Nathan McCollum, Will Loomis, Justin Strickland, Sierra Rodriquez and Daniel Rodriquez; five great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Goose Lindsay and wife, Lynn; and two nieces, Tracy Riemann and Vicky Deakle.
