NATCHEZ — Services for Clara Thompson Martin, 92, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2019, in Natchez, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Sinai Baptist Church with the Rev. James Brooks officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 4:30 to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home with an Eastern Star ceremony at 5 p.m., and a celebration of life wake service at 5:30 p.m. Visitation will continue Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time at the church.
Mrs. Martin was born Nov. 11, 1926, in Sibley, the daughter of Calvin Thompson Sr. and Sarah Galmore Thompson.
She was educated at the Deerpark School in Sibley. She was a retired domestic worker for John and Betty Callon.
She was also a member of Mount Sinai Baptist Church where she served with the Mother’s Board, Co-Worker’s Club and Missionary Society — she also was a member of the Order of Eastern Stars-Queen Ann Grand Chapter.
Martin enjoyed reading, watching the Atlanta Braves, Wheel of Fortune and Steve Harvey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Martin; her parents; four brothers, Calvin Thompson Jr., Joseph Thompson, Benjamin Thompson and James Thompson; and two sisters, Ethel Henderson and Margaret Lynch.
Survivors include one son, Walter James Thompson; two daughters, Phoebe Clara Hutcherson and husband, Aaron, and Lovie Ledine Martin; five grandchildren, Crystal Banyon, Maurice Vassar, Takeesha Tenson, Travis Nealy and Aaron Hutcherson Jr.; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
