DECATUR — Kedarius Stampley led the Natchez High School Bulldogs with a game-high 15 points and Charles Credit scored 14 points as they used a big third quarter to pull away for a 47-27 win over the Southeast Lauderdale High School Tigers Friday afternoon at the Neshoba Central Tournament on the ECCC campus.

Perhaps Natchez High took one-win Southeast Lauderdale too lightly in the first half as the MHSAA Class 3A Tigers hung tough with the Class 5A Bulldogs. Natchez High led just 9-5 after one quarter of play and 19-11 at halftime.

Southeast Lauderdale girls 35, Natchez High 31

DECATUR — In what turned out to be a low-scoring defensive battle, the Southeast Lauderdale High School Lady Tigers held on for a 35-31 win over the Natchez High School Lady Bulldogs Friday afternoon at the Neshoba Central Tournament on the campus of East Central Community College.

The first quarter was what really hurt Natchez High in this match-up. The Lady Bulldogs literally could not get anything to fall in the basket in the first quarter and trailed 11-0 at the end of the quarter. However, they got right back in the game with a 13-4 advantage in the second quarter to trail by just two points at halftime, 15-13.

Southeast Lauderdale regained some of its momentum and outscored Natchez High 8-5 in the third quarter for a 23-18 lead. Unfortunately for the Lady Bulldogs, they could only outscore the Lady Tigers by one point, 13-12, in the fourth quarter.

Kelsey McNeal led the Lady Bulldogs with 11 points and Kya Singleton had seven points. Savannah Davis led the Lady Tigers with 11 points and Shakira Wilson added seven points.

Natchez High (7-6) will next play at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 27 against Hattiesburg High School at the Hattiesburg Holiday Tournament.

Cathedral, on the other hand, could not keep up with that pace. The Green Wave scored just nine points in the first quarter, 15 points in the second quarter, and only eight points in the third quarter. By the time the third quarter was over, they were trailing by 37 points, 69-32.

The fourth quarter was the most competitive one of the entire game, and even then the Bears outscored the Green Wave 16-12.

Cathedral (2-9) will take on Central Hinds Academy on Thursday, Dec. 29 at 3 p.m. at the Amite School Center Christmas Tournament.
