Food drive set for second Saturday

As the Christmas holiday season inches closer, let us not forget the aspects of giving and community that make it so special.
The spirit surrounding this time of year brings people together and energizes everyone.
This weekend’s downtown second Saturday event is one example among many that allows us to invest in our community and its merchants.
From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Natchez store owners will open their businesses in hopes that you find the perfect gift in their stores.
As you peruse impressive art collections, handmade objects, architectural antiques and boutique-style clothing, drop off items that will also benefit Natchez’s local nonprofits.
In conjunction with this second Saturday event, the Leadership Natchez class of 2019 is holding a food drive for Stewpot and the Natchez Humane Society.
Both nonprofits benefit the Natchez community in several ways and deserve our recognition and donations.
Leadership Natchez will be accepting donations of canned goods (number 10 cans are preferable) for Stewpot and dog food for Natchez Humane Society.
Members of the 2019 class will be receiving food donations along Commerce Street throughout the second Saturday event.
This partnership also highlights the overall goal of the Leadership Natchez class of 2019: to bring attention to the strip of Commerce Street between Main and Franklin and initiate a revival through beautification and other events.
Leadership Natchez is comprised of local professionals seeking to better the Natchez community through volunteer and outreach opportunities.
The class of 2019 hopes you will participate in our food drive Saturday and give back to your community.
Taylor Landry is co-chairman of Leadership Natchez Class of 2019.
