NATCHEZ — Natchez police said they are investigating a Monday night incident in which multiple shots were fired into the parking lot of the Zipy convenience store at 320 N. Martin Luther King Jr. St., striking the building and a car in the parking lot.
Officers said they believe the shots were fired from a passing vehicle.
The investigation, police said, includes viewing video footage of the parking lot from the time period of approximately 11:10 p.m. Monday in which the multiple shots were fired.
So far, however, Natchez Police Chief Walter Armstrong said, police have no suspects or witnesses.
Armstrong said no people were hit by the bullets, but spent shell casings were recovered at the scene. Armstrong said he did not know the number of casings or what type of guns had fired them.
Armstrong said the area had mostly cleared after the shots were fired and that police only found one potential witness.
“We talked to the only person in the area who possibly could have seen something, and he did not see anyone who could have done the shootings,” Armstrong said. “More often times than not, people say they don’t see anything. We are reviewing some video footage and asking the public to call the police or Crime Stoppers if they know anything.”
