American Song brings more tourists

Last week, the new American Cruise Lines ship named American Song made its first stop in Natchez as part of the company’s new New Orleans to Memphis cruise.
It is a welcome addition to the Natchez tourism market.
The American Song is one of several cruise ships that make Natchez a regular stop, introducing new boatloads of tourists to everything Natchez has to offer, including historic architecture in antebellum houses and buildings, great restaurants, a craft beer brewery and plenty of mom-and-pop shops within walking distance of the dock.
Those tourists get a glimpse of all that Natchez has to offer and then go home and tell their friends.
Other good news from last week in the Miss-Lou:
* Hundreds of people turned out to support the second-annual Paint Natchez Pink event in downtown Natchez.
That event was just one of several events designed to raise awareness of breast cancer; the need for regular examinations and to raise funds for breast cancer research, and it is all a part of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
* Amuré Harris, a gifted student at Joseph L. Frazier Elementary School, has not only a bright future but also a great imagination and the youngster has already put her imagination to good use, penning her first book about a candy land in which candy rains from the sky.
She balanced the candy land with a vegetable land and made the two worlds co-exist, a metaphor for a balanced diet we all should appreciate.
Harris wrote the book last year, as a fourth-grader, and we are sure she will accomplish many great things in her life with such a rich imagination and intellect.
Those are just a few of the good news events from last week, and we look forward to more this week.
