Arrest made after fatal accident in Woodville Friday morning

WOODVILLE — A Friday morning fatal accident in Wilkinson County resulted in the arrest of a driver who fled the scene, Mississippi Highway Patrol officials said.

Corporal Brandon Fortenberry of the Mississippi Highway patrol said the accident occurred before 9 a.m. Friday on U.S. 61. just north of Woodville.

Leon Brewer, 69, of Woodville was traveling south on U.S. 61, in a 2007 Nissan Titan when his pickup was hit from behind by a 2006 Ford attempting to pass, Fortenberry said.

Brewer was reportedly ejected from his truck as it began to flip and was pronounced dead on scene.
The second driver Andrew Staggs, 25, of West Monroe, Louisiana, fled the scene and was later found in St. Francisville Louisiana where he was arrested and will later be transferred to Wilkinson County on a felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident, Fortenberry said.

Staggs was not injured during the accident, Fortenberry said.
