Please join us this weekend at Cathedral School for one of the longest-running festivals in the South. Bring your children and grandchildren Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 6 and 7, to the 171st annual Fall Festival. The whole community is invited to come out and enjoy the fun.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, enjoy Midway games, including the cakewalk, spin art projects, face-painting and more, as well as our traditional juicy burgers, Johnny’s Pizza and other delicious food at our concession stand. You also can buy casseroles, scratch cakes, crafts, books, artwork created by alumni, Cathedral merchandise and homemade candy.
In the multipurpose room, purchase raffle tickets for entry to win $3,000 cash, an Apple iPad, Beats Headphones, flat-screen TV, basket of cheer, $200 gas certificate, a TG McCary portrait session and a set of Vera Bradley luggage. Don’t miss our ever-popular silent auction of class-themed baskets on display in the multipurpose room. Raffles and bids close at 2 p.m. Sunday.
Our Saturday Night Supper event begins with $12 take-out plates of pulled pork and $5 bowls of delicious Roux 61 gumbo at Center Drive from 5 to 7 p.m. If you wish to dine in, dinner is served at 6 p.m.
Saturday night is the Adult Night Paddle Wheel, which starts at 7 p.m. We have wonderful prizes donated from our generous Miss-Lou businesses and individuals, including exciting trips to Gatlinburg, Tennessee, Honey Brake, Grand Isle, Playa Del Carmen, Mexico and Hawaii, tickets to Outdoor Extravaganza and Bishop Gunn, a playhouse, turkey hunt, furniture, works by local artists and much, much more. Purchase a cork to win a bottle of red or white wine and returning this year is the “Mini-Paddle” raffle that will be individual raffle items drawn throughout the night.
Please visit Cathedral’s website www.cathedralgreenwave.com or Cathedral’s Fall Festival Facebook page to see a full list of packages and instructions on how to purchase pre-sold paddles, which enters you once into each paddle offered. You do not have to be present to win.
The festival continues from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday with the midway games, food, raffles and other activities on the elementary playground and in the Multipurpose Room Our traditional Turkey Dinner with all the trimmings is available 11a.m. to 2 p.m. for dine in or take out (adults $8, children $5). You will want to stay for the ever-popular bingo in the cafeteria from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. In addition, the winners for the raffle items will be announced. At 4 p.m. we will close the doors on another successful and fun-filled Fall Festival weekend.
The festivities will continue the weekend of Nov. 16-18 for the Fall Festival Tennis Tournament at Duncan Park. To register for the 18 and Older Division as well as the Adult/Junior Division or for more information, contact bhungerford@hotmail.com.
My husband, Hyde and I, along with our co-chairmen Laura and Scott McLemore, thank all of you who have given so generously of your time and contributions to this annual event in support of Cathedral School’s mission of excellence in education. On behalf of Cathedral School, we invite the entire community to come out, enjoy and discover what the Cathedral family has to offer.
