JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — One group has been approved to open a charter school in Mississippi, while a state board is delaying a decision on three others.
The state’s Charter School Authorizer Board on Monday approved plans for Ambition Preparatory Charter School to open a school in Jackson serving grades K-8.
The board is delaying decisions on a high school and a K-8 school sought by RePublic Schools in Jackson. Board members say they first want to consider state accountability grades for RePublic schools now in Jackson.
Board members are also delaying a vote on MS Delta Academies’ plan to open a school in Greenwood serving grades 6-8.
The board is denying an application by SR1 for a K-5 school in Canton.
Mississippi now has four charter schools in Jackson and one in Clarksdale.
