NATCHEZ — Saturday will be last day for the summer season of the Downtown Natchez Farmers Market.
“Farmers are starting to run out of product because production was affected by heat and lack of rain this summer,” said Eddie Burkes director of the market. “So Saturday will be the last weekend of the summer farmers market on Commerce Street.”
While the market will closing noon Saturday, it will reopen for the fall season but Burkes said he does not yet have an exact date for the when the fall market will reopen, but he anticipates sometime in September or October.
“The farmers who come and sell at our market are starting to grow their fall products,” Burkes said. “We will set a date for when to open the fall market based on how the farmers are doing. Hopefully, in September, but it could be in October.”
Once the dates are set, the fall farmers market will run 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays, just like the summer market. Burkes said Natchez enjoyed a successful summer market and thanks everyone who has attended this season.
“Without the community or our sponsors, we wouldn’t be able to run this operation,” Burkes said. “So they are the reason why we had a successful summer market. I look forward to the fall one.”
