NATCHEZ — The moment Cathedral School’s Addison Jackson saw the perfect pitch, she took it and she ran — ran all the way around the bases.
The Lady Wave was leading Centreville Academy by nine runs in the bottom of the fifth inning Friday night when Jackson hit an over-the-fence home run to give Cathedral a walk-off run-rule victory in its first game of the year, 11-0.
“It was right down the middle,” Jackson said.
Not only did Jackson lead Cathedral’s offense, batting in four runs, she also secured the win by pitching all five innings with six strikeouts.
“I don’t think she let up a walk all night,” Cathedral coach Craig Beesley said. “That’s huge. She did a real good job of throwing strikes.”
Overall, Beesley said he was pleased with the way his team came together in its first outing.
The Lady Wave tallied 13 total hits, giving up just three. Along with Jackson’s pitching, senior shortstop Baylee Graning highlighted the defense with multiple stops including a diving grab in the top of the fifth.
“I thought it was a good game all the way around,” Beesley said. “Hopefully we can continue to do that.”
On the other hand, Centreville coach Robert Bordelon said he was a little disappointed in how his team played.
Emilea Roberts led the effort for the Lady Tigers with two hits.
“This is not the way we wanted to get our momentum jacked up,” he said. “They know they are better than that, and I know they are better than that.”
To improve going forward, Bordelon said his team has to do nothing expect for make base hits.
“That was the problem. You can’t score runs if you don’t get on base,” he said.
Fisher Iseminger ended with three hits and three RBIs to aid Cathedral’s winning efforts, while Allie Feltus registered two hits with two RBIs herself.
Cathedral (1-0) will be back in action Monday when it hosts Porter’s Chapel.
