The Vidalia Little League Softball 16U all-stars dropped their first game of the Senior League Southwest tournament in Vidalia Saturday night, falling to Texas West, 10-0.
Vidalia coach Tate Lipscomb said while the game was a close 2-0 until the fifth inning, his players seemed to simply give up.
“We quit and bowed our heads, and the other team took it,” he said. “We walked too many batters, made too many errors and didn’t hit the ball.
“You can’t win ball games like that.”
Vidalia struggled with pitching from the beginning, utilizing all three pitchers in Jensen Gremillion, Alyssa Howard and Shelby Mason by the fourth inning.
“That’s a real good ball team we faced,” Lipscomb said.
Vidalia totaled three hits on the night with one each from Mason, Howard and Savanna Spear.
Vidalia moves to the loser’s bracket and will play again at 6 p.m. Monday against the loser of Texas East and New Mexico.
