MCCOMB, Miss. (AP) — Top government employees in one Mississippi city are being told they might lose their jobs.

The Enterprise-Journal reports the newly inaugurated McComb mayor and Board of Selectmen have voted to declare some department heads and workers as interim employees for 90 days. The jobs are being open for applications.

Those affected are the police chief, the city administrator, the board attorney, the city clerk and two deputy clerks, two municipal judges, the city prosecutor and the public defender.
The new mayor, Quordiniah Lockley, says he and the new selectmen need a chance to get to know the people now holding the jobs.

Selectman Ted Tullos voted against telling those current employees that they are serving on an interim basis. He says the uncertainty is “scary and ugly.”
