RIVER RIDGE, La. — The Vidalia Little League Softball 12U all-stars fell in their first game of the state tournament Monday afternoon to Eastbank, 21-0.
Vidalia coach Jaclyn LeBlanc said while the loss was tough, she said her team was prepared.
“(Eastbank) was just that good,” she said. “Their pitcher was the best 12U pitcher I’ve ever seen.”
LeBlanc said while it didn’t take long to realize the game would be difficult to win, she didn’t want her players to get discouraged.
“In the first inning by the way Eastbank was hitting the ball, you could just tell it took all the momentum out of my girls,” she said. “I just kept telling them to have fun and give it 100 percent. The only thing you can do is hustle and make routine plays.”
LeBlanc said the bright spot for Vidalia Monday was catcher Hallie Weatherly.
“She had (minor) surgery last week,” LeBlanc said. “She did better tonight than I have ever seen her do stopping up the ball. She really impressed me tonight.”
Vidalia will be back in action at 2 p.m. today when it takes on Bossier City.
