JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Paul Ott Carruth, a Mississippi entertainer known for songs about patriotism and the outdoors, has died. He was 83.

A son, Bert Carruth, tells The Clarion Ledger that his father died in his sleep Sunday. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Summit.

Carruth made a living talking and singing about the outdoors, performing up to 100 shows a year at conventions, schools and churches around the South.

The Mississippi Game and Fish Commission gave Carruth a weekly TV show, “Mississippi Outdoors,” and a radio show. It changed names years later to “Listen to the Eagle.”

He was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007.

He is survived by his wife, Lynda, and his children: Carla Tigner, Paul Ott Jr., Bert, Russ and Jeff.
