FERRIDAY — Ferriday High School linebacker Larry Scott is waiting.

He isn’t waiting for a bus to pick me up to go to school. He isn’t waiting for Friday night lights, even though he would like football to return sooner rather than later.

At the moment, Scott is waiting for the universities that have shown interest in him to play football to finally extend an offer.

“It’s nerve wrecking forsure,” Scott said.

Last year, Scott totaled 84 tackles and 12 tackles for loss. Due to that performance,  Scott has received interest from a multitude of Power 5 universities such as Arkansas, Georgia, LSU, Mississippi State, Georgia Tech and TCU according to 247Sports.

Ferriday coach Stanley Smith said those schools, along with the others that have inquiried about Scott haven’t offered a scholarship yet because they are waiting for his ACT scores.

“I can’t wait to get my ACT score back,” Scott said. “After that, I’ll be good.”

Although Scott’s score stands between him and a college offer, Smith said the 6-foot-1 defender checks off every other box that makes me a solid recruit.

“He is a stout kid that can run,” Smith said. “He understands the game. Football is important to him. Once he and every school gets his test score, eveything is going to fall in place for him.”

While Scott waits for offers, he hasn’t waited on taking unofficial visits.

On June 12, Scott took an unofficial visit to LSU, in which he said he was speechless by how they treated him like family in Baton Rouge. Before that, Scott visited TCU and Mississippi State. Then later on this summer, on July 28, he plans to take a trip up North to Manhattan, Kansas to visit Kansas State University.

“It feels great,” Scott said. “Coming from Ferriday, it is just a blessing.”

As Scott waits, he said he grinding to make sure he can play at the collegiate level. Scott said he has been showing up earlier for practices and staying later. He went onto add that he has been putting more time in the weight room.

Though Scott has be working harder than he has before this offseason, Smith said he wants the linebacker to be a little bit more vocal. Smith said Scott is a leader, but not a vocal one. The defender leads more by example.

“If he can do can be more vocal and step up his game a little bit more,” Smith said. “He can be the player he wants to be.”

When Scott does start to get offers — Smith said the linebacker is getting a lot of love from those schools — he feels like he will be more suited to play strong safety in college. But Smith thinks otherwise.

“I think he is a linebacker,” Smith said. “I think he is a backside, will linebacker. So that’s where we will play him at this year. In our system, that player has to be the most athletic, discplined guy. Right now Larry is that guy.”

However, Smith said he believes Scott could excel at strong safety as well.

Once Scott receives an offer, Smith said it will be time for him to prepare for official visits, which won’t be that new to him.

“Dare Rosenthal and Dantrieze Scott took him under their wing last year,” Smith said. “They showed him the process. So, he knows what to expect.

“It’s now time for him to get out there for official visits. See what the programs are about. Things like that.”

Before doing that, however, all Scott can do is wait.
