Good news worth singing about

On Sunday, we celebrated those who helped train us to be adults with Father’s Day. To keep the celebration going, take a look back at some of the good news from last week.
* News broke Tuesday that Natchez will be part of the Mighty Mississippi’s latest tune. American Cruise Lines’ New Orleans to Memphis cruise included Natchez as a port of call for the line’s newest cruise ship, American Song. Beginning Oct. 6, the 184-passenger boat will begin docking in Natchez as part of its journey. For a city that is relying more and more on tourism, anything that adds potential for visitors should be something that leaders aim to maximize in terms of potential benefit to the area.
* City leaders are looking to resurrect the position of downtown development leader, something Natchez has been missing for the last several years. The city’s atypically large downtown relative to its size has not been quite so vibrant as it has in the past, with a large portion of its buildings remaining vacant. Hopefully, this move to seek a new leader to develop downtown economically is a step in the right direction to enhance one of Natchez’s biggest potential attractions.
* The 155th Armored Brigade Combat Team recently was honored while in Fort Bliss, Texas, before the brigade’s third deployment to the Middle East since 2001. Most of the 4,200 155th troops being deployed are Mississippians, and about 15 are from Natchez, McComb, Franklin County and Woodville. The honor bestowed upon this group is well deserved to say the least, and we must always continue to thank those who sacrifice everything for our freedom and to always remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in doing so.
Throughout this week, don’t forget to be thankful for the good things in life and try to help others do the same.
