Happy Father’s Day to all dads

Today is the day we set aside to honor fathers.

Many of us are blessed to have good, respectful fathers who helped steer us on a path in our lives and perhaps continue to provide us with wise guidance and advice, well into adulthood.

Unfortunately, not everyone is so blessed.

A number of young children and youth grow up without a father figure in their lives — or perhaps without a good one.

For many children smart phones or tablets that lure parental attention away from a child or even lure a child’s attention away from parents have replaced some of the time children spend with their fathers.

The result is a loss of time spent learning important life skills such as interacting with one another in real time.

The problem underscores the need for us all to pause and celebrate fathers who are devoting time and attention to their children and who are serving as good, real-life role models.

For many Christian fathers, they have a beautiful example of fatherly love in the relationship between God and man.

Trying to match the goodness of the heavenly father is truly impossible as none of us are perfect.

Striving for that unattainable goal, however, will help all of us become better fathers, mothers, family or friends.

Happy Father’s Day to each dad out there and may you have many more happy Father’s Days ahead.
