A look at good news from week

This week, we approach Father’s Day, and many of us are likely still trying to pick out the perfect gift for Dad. Let’s take the opportunity to both look back on what our fathers or father figures have done for us while also taking a look at some of the good news from last week.

  • On Thursday, residents in need received help from local attorneys who offered their services for free at a legal clinic at the Adams County Chancery Court. The clinic helped many with cases of obtaining legal guardianship. The clinic showed just how important and impactful opportunities like these can be, and these lawyers should be
  • After much consternation, Natchez’s community swimming pool finally opened its gates Friday, with a good chunk of residents beating the heat during the grand opening. While many opposed building the pool, and for valid reasons, it’s now part of the community, and seeing young faces get enjoyment is always a good sight. We hope the city, county and the YMCA are able to oversee the pool responsibly and that residents take advantage of this facility now that it is here.
  • Today marks the beginning of a new summer program by local nonprofit After Shock, founded by Javarrea Jones. Jones said this program is meant to help create opportunities for community youth to do something fun and enriching — opportunities Jones said he wishes he had when he was growing up. This noble venture by Jones, who said he battled through a rough upbringing, addresses a direct problem that community outreach leaders have discussed, which is that many children in the area who get themselves into trouble simply do not have a positive outlet in times when school is not in session. We wish Jones the best of luck with his program, and we hope his efforts pay off.

This week, as Father’s Day nears, take time to appreciate those who have made a positive impact on your life.
