JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — One person has died in a wreck on Mississippi highways during the Memorial Day holiday period.
Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman Capt. Johnny Poulos says that on Monday afternoon, 79-year-old Ida White of Louisville was hit while trying to cross the four lanes of Mississippi 25 just north of Louisville. As she tried to cross the northbound lanes, her car was hit by a second car driven by 40-year-old Jones McArthur of Monroe, Louisiana. White died while on the way to a hospital, while McArthur was taken to a hospital.
Poulos says troopers investigated 156 crashes between Friday and Monday, with 54 people suffering injuries. He says troopers issued nearly 6,000 citations and made 109 DUI arrests.
