Last week, a local grassroots organization took the word service and put it into action with the creation of a clothing bank for veterans.
Located on the second floor of the VFW Post near Wal-Mart in Natchez, the Homes with Heroes clothing bank opened on Thursday and expects to open from 9 a.m. to noon on Thursday and Fridays.
The new entity offers a free place for veterans to pick up clothes if they have a need for such as well as providing them with a memorabilia room that provides a space for them to hang out with one another and reminisce.
As Homes With Heroes President Mark LaFrancis said last week, “We’re serving those who served us.”
We applaud LaFrancis, the organization he leads and its volunteers for making the endeavor a reality.
The bonds that bind our nation’s men and women who served in the military are strong. Their sacrifices deserve our lifelong gratitude.
Our nation’s commitment to serving those veterans needs to be equally as strong as the bonds forged by many during their military services.
Our national commitment to taking care of our veterans needs to be realized on many levels, from national fronts on which veterans issues are put into law as well as the local level through volunteer groups such as Homes With Heroes.
Please consider donating clothes, time or money to this worth cause.
