VIDALIA — An inmate who escaped his work release program Monday was captured Wednesday night, officials said.
Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy David Hedrick said the agents with the Concord Parish Narcotics Task Force located Jason D. Wiley, 44, 373 Stephens Road, at a residence in Vidalia.
Hedrick said Wiley had “walked off” of his work release program on Monday.
The work release program allows inmates to make money to send back to their families or to save for after their release while learning a trade.
Hedrick said the program is only offered to minimum-security inmates without a history of violence and with clean track records in the prison.
“The program began under Sheriff (Randy) Maxwell and is really good for the community,” Hedrick said. “It makes inmates productive citizens.”
Wiley’s work-release program privileges will be revoked, Hedrick said, and he will be placed back in the prison’s general population.
“We don’t tolerate this kind of behavior,” he said. “Of course, he’ll also have the simple escape time added to his sentence, if he’s convicted.”
Hedrick said the narcotics task force recovered Wiley late Wednesday night at a residence in Vidalia and charged him with simple escape, but would not say how the deputies found him.
“I can’t speak to specifics,” he said.
Hedrick praised the narcotics task force and Lt. John Cowan for their work.
“They always do a great job,” Hedrick said.
