MERIDIAN, Miss. (AP) — A Mississippi family’s Habitat for Humanity home has been robbed a day before they were set to move in.

William Samford, his wife and mother-in-law arrived at the Meridian home over the weekend and found a window smashed in. The thieves took the family’s washing machine, lights, toilet, countertop, sink, stove and refrigerator.

Monica Bradley is the executive director for the Lauderdale County Habitat for Humanity. She says there have been minor break-ins at houses in the past, but no home has been stripped down. She says someone tried to break into the home two weeks ago. The Samford’s move-in date has been delayed by several weeks.

Meridian Police Sgt. Dareall Thompson says police are investigating.
