NATCHEZ — Deputies recovered Thursday a stolen gun that burglars took from Sports Center in late April.
Robert Earl Williams and Whitley Ann Williams were each arrested on charges of possession of a stolen firearm after Adams County Sheriff’s Office special operations deputies found both the stolen gun and nearly half an ounce of marijuana in their vehicle during a traffic stop, ACSO reported.
The pair allegedly had a Smith and Wesson Bodyguard 380 handgun in the center console of the Williams’ GMC Yukon when deputies pulled the vehicle over on Old Washington Road.
Deputies later performed a records check, confirming that the gun had been stolen from Sports Center.
The driver, Whittley Williams, originally lied about her identity, telling deputies her name was Tiffany Johnson, ACSO reported. She had recently been interviewed by Natchez police and ACSO deputies in reference to the burglary of Sports Center and other local shops that sell guns, the sheriff’s office said.
Robert and Whittley Williams remained at the Adams County jail with bonds of $4,500 and $4,000, respectively, as of Thursday afternoon.
Deputies have also notified the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and explosives, which is investigating the matter further, the sheriff’s office reported.
