NATCHEZ — Police officers say a Natchez man shot his ex-girlfriend just after midnight Sunday.
Natchez Police Chief Walter Armstrong said the man who has a history of domestic abuse was violating a protective order his ex-girlfriend had placed against him when he came to her home Saturday night and reportedly got in an altercation with the woman and her daughter.
The altercation escalated, Armstrong said, and the boyfriend shot her.
The woman was immediately air-lifted to Rapides Regional Medical Center, but Armstrong said the injuries did not appear life-threatening.
Armstrong said he would not release the names of the individuals involved yet as the investigation is early and ongoing.
“These domestics are very, very serious encounters that often wind up with death or serious injuries,” Armstrong said. “I hope all parties involved are taking this seriously. This individual is defying court orders and has shown to this family that he doesn’t care about their safety at all.”
Armstrong said he hoped his officers would get a chance to speak with the victim tomorrow and said an arrest is coming soon in the incident.
