Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies said a man identified as Johntrel Powell was shot through the eye as he sat in a white Chevrolet Silverado truck approximately 1 p.m. Friday on Margaret Circle in Clayton.

A man who CPSO Lt. Chris Groh said was in the passenger seat of the Silverado drove Powell to Riverland Medical Center, from where he was later flown to University Health in Shreveport.

Deputies arrested another man, Melvin J. Nix, 45, 241 Doty Garden Circle, Ferriday, on a charge of public intimidation after Nix allegedly threatened both a police officer and residents in Clayton.

Groh said Nix called a sheriff’s deputy the night before the shooting and threatened one of the people who later reported being shot at during the drive-by.

After the drive-by, Groh said Nix again called, but this time he threatened the deputy personally.

All three of the men were in Concordia Parish Jail without bond as of Saturday morning.

CPSO Chief Deputy David Hedrick said Saturday he had received no updates on Powell’s condition.
