Cathedral tennis falls at state tourney

VICKSBURG — The MAIS Class AAA state tennis tournament took place Wednesday at the Hall’s Ferry Tennis Center in Vicksburg and four Cathedral School competitors took to the court.
The Green Wave’s No. 2 boys singles competitor Rankin Reynolds, No. 2 girls singles contender Annalyce Riley and their No. 1 boys doubles team, comprised of Aiden Whitaker and Harris Pyron, all made it to state. However, their runs in Vicksburg were cut short as all four were bounced from the competition in the first round.
Reynolds took on Starkville Academy’s No. 1 boys singles competitor, only to fall in two sets. Reynolds suffered a 6-2 defeat in the first set and then got swept in the second, 6-0.
Riley would also take on No. 1 player as she took Hertiage Academy’s No. 1 girls singles participant. Riley experienced the same result as Reynolds,as she loss in two sets. The Cathedral player got swept in the first set and then suffered a 6-1 defeat in set two.
The team of Whitaker and Pyron fared a tad better than their teammates, but they too lost in two sets against Kirk Academy’s No. 1 boys doubles pair. Whitaker and Pyron dropped the first set, 6-1, and the second set, 6-2.
