Cathedral School freshman Chase Kaiser shot one under par Wednesday at Beau Pré County Club to take home the MAIS AAA South State Individual Championship with a score of 71.
Kaiser finished the first nine holes at one under as well, shooting three birdies on three of the final four holes to finish the front.
“This is the best Chase has played all year,” Cathedral golf coach Kurt Russ said. “He finally put together the round he was looking for.”
Kaiser was the only competitor to finish under par on Wednesday, followed by second-place finishers Ryan Talley and Brett Baker from Central Hinds and Silliman Institute, respectively, who each finished at 76.
Central Hinds placed first as a team with a combined score of 319.
Kaiser will move on to golf in the MAIS AAA State Championship on Tuesday at the Mississippi State Golf Course in Starkville.
“He has worked really hard to get to this point, and I hope it carries to next week,” Russ said. “I’m extremely proud of him.”
Cathedral’s Kayla Starr also golfed Wednesday but withdrew before the end of the round.
