Prep Roundup: Franklin County baseball advance, Natchez softball out

FLORENCE — The Franklin County High School Bulldogs punched their ticket to the second round of the MHSAA Class 3A South State Playoffs Saturday with a win in Game 2 of their first-round series over McLaurin, 4-2.
Logan Murray gave up just one hit in six innings on the mound to earn the win for Franklin County. He struck out 10 batters.
Despite 10 hits on the afternoon, the Bulldogs (17-7) were spotty on offense. They scored first in the third inning with just one run, added two more in the fourth and their final run in the fifth inning. McLaurin did not score until the bottom of the seventh.
Trey Tindle, Jacob Clanton, Garrett Smith and Wyatt Brumfield all had two hits in the win.
Franklin County is sent to play again at 6 p.m. Friday at home in Game 1 of their second-round series with West Marion.
Softball
Picayune 10, Natchez High 0
PICAYUNE — The Natchez High School softball team ended their season Saturday with a loss in Game 2 of its MHSAA Class 5A South State Playoffs first-round series with Picayune, 10-0, in five innings.
Jaden Flowers took the loss in the circle for the Lady Bulldogs.
Ava Reese and Courtney McDonald each registered a hit in the loss.
