NATCHEZ — A Natchez couple has been arrested on an indictment for allegedly abusing a 4-year-old boy.

Adams County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Bria Ferguson, 24, and her boyfriend, 25-year-old Derrick De’Shun Dobbins Tuesday on the indictments, with each facing a count of felony child abuse.

Ferguson, the child’s mother, was released on a $150,000 bond, while Dobbins was released after posting a $30,000 bond.

The child’s father discovered numerous bruises and abrasions on his 4-year-old son toward the end of last year, prompting an investigation and eventually leading to Ferguson and Dobbins’ arrests on Dec. 5, 2017.

Investigators have yet to determine what instrument allegedly caused the markings, ACSO Chief Deputy Jerry Brown said.

“We never did find out exactly what it was,” Brown said.

Brown said investigators believe the situation between the suspects and the child was ongoing, rather than an isolated incident.
