FERRIDAY — A Ferriday man died Wednesday morning after an 18-wheeler struck his vehicle on U.S. 65 near Clayton.
Richard S. McLain, 57, died at approximately 8:30 a.m. Wednesday when a north-bound 18-wheeler veered onto the right shoulder of the highway, striking McLain’s Ford pick-up truck and the flatbed trailer he was hauling, said Glenn Younger with the Louisiana State Police in a release Wednesday.
A passenger in McLain’s truck, Louis White, 56, of Clayton, was taken to Riverland Medical Center for minor injuries, Younger said.
The driver of the 18-wheeler, Edward Herrington, 48, of Ovette, Mississippi, was uninjured, Younger said.
Preliminary toxicology tests, Younger said, have indicated that Herrington was not impaired at the time of the incident.
Younger said the reason the 18-wheeler traveled from the road to the shoulder is unknown at this time, and that the investigation is ongoing.
