The best way to predict your future is to create it. —Abraham Lincoln

The above quote relates to the challenges that youth are faced with today. Our 2014-2018 International Program focus is “Launching New Dimensions of Service.”

In an effort to reach the large portion of teens affected by crises, Zeta Delta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. partnered with local Greek organizations to sponsor our eighth annual teen summit.

After weeks of planning, the vision came to fruition on the morning of April 7 at the Alcorn State University School of Nursing. The attendance was phenomenal.

This event impacted 200 teens, parents and organizations and has received rave reviews from the community.

This year’s guest speaker was Kelly Thomas, who gave the audience great words of encouragement and facts for a successful life.

The breakout sessions were truly beneficial and informative. The event was free to all teens and youth in the Miss-Lou area. The teens received information on Stop the Violence, Stop the Abuse, Health Issues, Academic Excellence, Conflict Resolution and SMART, which is an acronym for Science, Math and Related Technology.

In spite of the weather, we were fortunate to have more than 30 presenters.

I would like to offer thanks also to our other sponsors: Alcorn State University, Natchez Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Natchez and Vidalia chapters of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., National Council of Negro Women, Knights of Peter Claver, Magnolia Bluff Casino, Magnolia Medical and My Brother’s Keeper.

We, the members of Zeta Delta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., are grateful for the outstanding support and responses we received as we render services to all mankind.
