NATCHEZ — A 16-year-old male lay dead as approximately a dozen friends and family members looked on, some in tears, others visibly shaken, as investigators worked the scene of a fatal shooting at 106 Winola Drive on Friday night.
The shooting occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m., according to scanner traffic and witness reports. Investigators arrived on the scene at approximately 10 p.m.
On the lawn of the house a group of people, who were in the house at the time of the shooting, stood in a heavy rainstorm under umbrellas watching authorities work the scene.
Adams County Sheriff’s Office chief deputy Jerry Brown said the victim was a 16-year-old male who was dead upon arrival of an ambulance and crew.
The body lie in an open garage as investigators worked the scene and the victim’s friends, neighbors and family members stood under umbrellas outside the perimeter of an area marked off with crime scene tape from a street light to the garage.
Sheriff’s deputies tried to shield the view as the Adams County Coroner and investigators worked the scene.
Brown said the victim was sitting in a friend’s garage with two other juveniles when they heard shots. Witnesses said the victim grabbed his chest and fell to the ground.
Brown said one of the victim’s friends said he saw a car drive by at the time of the shots, but the other friend did not.
Investigators say Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward. Anyone with information on the case can call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 601-442-5000.
The case is still being investigated and no arrests had been made as of midnight Saturday.
