Humane society needs your support

The purpose of the Natchez Adams County Humane Society is to promote the humane treatment of animals by providing shelter and care for abandoned and abused animals, by providing humane environments through adoption, fostering and educational programs and by advocating for humane and ethical treatment of animals.
In August 2017, Lena McKnight became our Shelter Manager and has done a wonderful job. Lena has an associate degree in animal science and livestock health and will soon become a registered veterinary technician. Our Shelter has housing for 102 animals including large dogås, small dogs, cats, kittens, puppies, isolation and medical treatment areas.
During 2017 we serviced 1,548 animals through our shelter and transport programs. Over the last five years the Transport Program has sent 4,000 animals to other parts of the country for adoption, including just fewer than 1,000 in 2017.
Our effort to provide humane care for the animals in our area is a very costly endeavor, approximately $420,000 per year or $35,000 per month. Currently, the City of Natchez and Adams County each provide only $2,083 monthly towards our annual budget, leaving us a remaining $370,000 annually to raise through donations by people such as you and our fundraising efforts such as Mae and Friends Lemonade Stand, Pictures with Santa, The Witches Ride at Halloween, Christmas Auction, book signings, 5K runs, and others.
We have recently kicked off our Annual Membership and Fund Raising Drive, which some of you may have gotten a letter about and explaining the different donation and membership levels. If you did we ask that you help us by filling out the contribution form and sending it back to NACHS, P.O. Box 549, Natchez, MS. 39121.
If you did not, you can call the shelter at 601-445-4001, and someone will be glad to help you, or you can just send your donation to the above address. Giving levels are Great Dane $1000 or more; Bulldog $500 – $999; Siamese $250-$499; Chihuahua $100-$249; and Kitty/Puppy up to $100. Memberships are $50 per family, $25 single and $10 youth. Memberships and donations also can be done online by going to our new website mentioned below.
In addition to the above, the shelter is always in need of dog/cat food (especially puppy food) along with old newspapers, sheets, towels and other linens. These items can be dropped off at the Shelter at 475 Liberty Road.
On behalf of our dedicated staff and the board of directors I ask you to support our efforts by becoming a new member or renewing your membership for 2018 and also by making a donation as indicated above. We thank you in advance for your support.
