NATCHEZ — Police arrested a Natchez man on a charge of murder late Thursday in connection to a fatal shootout that took place early Wednesday morning.
Police arrested Da’Larren White, 24, for allegedly shooting and killing 27-year-old Rodrique Watson in the parking lot of Zipy gas station on Old Washington Road, Natchez Police Chief Walter Armstrong said.
Police said they believe White targeted his attack toward Watson. Armstrong said White had been at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson after being struck by gunfire from an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle. Investigators determined the return fire came from one of Watson’s friends, Keith Burns.
Both Burns, 24, and another associate, Gregory Hammett, 25, were arrested Wednesday on charges of tampering with physical evidence after they allegedly took Watson’s weapon away from the scene.
Officers brought White into the Natchez Police Department for questioning Thursday and subsequently arrested him on the murder charge.
