NATCHEZ — Two local businesses were dismissed Monday from a lawsuit filed by a former justice court judge candidate against his former business partner.

Sixth District Circuit Court Judget Forrest “Al” Johnson granted a motion to dismiss Black Jack Oil Company and Black Jack Holdings LLC from former judge candidate Danny Barber’s damages lawsuit.

Barber’s lawsuit was filed in November 2017 after his former business partner, Kevin Wilson, filed a civil complaint alleging Barber owes him money from a now defunct body shop the pair co-owned.

Barber said the matter was politically motivated and filed a lawsuit claiming damages the very next day, suing Wilson, two of his companies, Black Jack Oil Company and Black Jack Holdings along with Concordia Bank & Trust Company.

Johnson said he granted the dismissal because a lack of evidence that Wilson’s companies were involved in the dispute.

“(The suit) did not state a sufficient complaint against the companies,” Johnson said.

Johnson said he did not know when the next hearing might be, and that no trial date had yet been set.
