NATCHEZ — An alcohol-filled wedding party Friday night led police to use a stun gun to subdue a rambunctious Louisiana firefighter at Bowie’s Tavern.Natchez Police Chief Walter Armstrong said officers were originally called to the bar because a man reportedly had been assaulted in the bar, but upon arrival, another fight broke out in front of the officers.

“There was a group of people from a wedding party in Louisiana and apparently, lots of alcohol was consumed,” Armstrong said. “There was a misunderstanding that led to a physical altercation, and somebody called the police. Another fight broke out when officers arrived on the scene.”

Two people were arrested, one of which was shot by a stun gun before complying with officers.

Jeremy Waldrop, 29, a firefighter for St. Landry Fire District No. 3 was arrested and charged with disturbing the peace by fighting.

Police shot Waldrop with a stun gun when he resisted arrest, Armstrong said.

Edward Cowan, 29, was arrested on a charge of failure to comply with law enforcement.

Rumors about a gun involved in either of the altercations were unfounded, Armstrong said.  An off-duty Louisiana law enforcement officer was in possession of his weapon at the time of the incident, but Armstrong said the officer never drew it.

Armstrong said no one involved in the incident has pressed charges as of yet.

“Victims in this situation have the obligation to press charges if they choose,” Armstrong said. “We’ve had no complaints written or verbally.”
