VIDALIA — A Vidalia man’s mother dropped him off at the sheriff’s office Monday to turn himself in after allegedly shooting at two men Thursday.

Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Nicholas R. Brown, 22, 175 Ralph’s Road, on two charges of attempted second-degree murder and a charge of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

Brown allegedly shot into a car carrying two people at approximately 7:30 p.m. Thursday night on Ralphs Road near the Country Estates mobile home park.

One victim was flown by helicopter to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson after the bullet allegedly tore through his left shoulder and lodged behind the man’s sternum.

Lead Investigator Phillip Smith said Brown fled on foot Thursday night.

When sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call that said shots had been fired, they found neither the victim nor the suspect.

Smith said as Brown fled, the injured man drove himself to Vidalia, where he switched seats with the passenger, who had not been injured by the gunfire.

The passenger then drove him to Merit Health Natchez, where the victim was flown to UMMC.

Smith said the last health report he had for the victim was on Friday evening and that, though progressing, the injured man was still in critical condition.

The shooting happened in the presence of several others and Smith said deputies identified the alleged shooter on Friday.

Brown was booked on a warrant for his arrest after his mother turned him in Monday morning.

As of Monday afternoon, Brown was still in jail with no bond set.
