Water Works urges citizens to conserve water following leaks

NATCHEZ — Natchez Water Works is requesting residents conserve water usage after numerous leaks Thursday began to strain the city’s water system.
Water Works Superintendent Tony Moon said the department — as anticipated — had spent most of Thursday shutting off the water of customers with leaks.
“We’ve been going through it all day … it’s like you cut one off, you get five more calls,” Moon said.
Moon said the department is struggling to keep up with demand, with more water pumping out to customers than is being replenished in Water Works’ tanks.
Conservation from residents, he said, has helped relieve the strain in the later stages of the day, and he “absolutely” recommended residents to continue being conservative with their water usage throughout the evening.
He also encouraged everyone to continue reporting leaks or any loss of water pressure, though Moon had not received reports of the latter as of 6:15 p.m. Thursday.
In case of emergency, Water Works can be reached at 601-445-5521 ext. 8.
