NATCHEZ — Police arrested a Natchez man Thursday who police suspect burglarized multiple vehicles and one residence.
Natchez Police Department Capt. Scott Frye said D’Vonte Marquel Leonard, 22, 405 Sixth Spencer St., was arrested for a string of burglaries that occurred over the course of this week.
Frye said Leonard allegedly stole from two vehicles and is suspected of burglarizing a third, all in the parking lots of various hotels near the intersection of Canal Street and John R. Junkin Drive. All three incidents occurred on three separate nights earlier this week, Frye said.
One vehicle, Frye said, had two firearms stolen out from it, and a pistol was stolen from a second vehicle the next night. All of the property from those vehicles has been recovered, Frye said.
The vehicles were broken into and not left unlocked, Frye said.
Though Leonard is a suspect in a third vehicle burglary in that area, Frye said the department is still awaiting surveillance footage before issuing further charges.
Finally, Leonard was charged with burglarizing a residence. Frye said the various items allegedly stolen amounted to relatively little and most of that property has been recovered.
Leonard was also arrested on Dec. 6 on a charge of unlawful possession of marijuana.
As of Friday evening, Leonard was being held at the Natchez City Jail on the burglary charges.
