FERRIDAY — A Ferriday man arrested after video footage allegedly showed him striking a young girl with a belt more than 50 times and shaving her head is being held in the Department of Corrections on a $20,000 bond.

In the video, which was published on several social media platforms and shared many times, Alex J. Harrison, 30, 800 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Ferriday, reportedly yells at the child, whose age is not given, while striking and shaving her head.

Harrison was arrested on Nov. 6 on a probation and parole hold and on a charge of cruelty to a juvenile.

He was still being housed in the Department of Corrections facility as of 9 p.m. Tuesday night.
