VIDALIA — A Natchez man pleaded not guilty Wednesday in Concordia Parish to a charge of third-degree rape in an incident allegedly involving a juvenile.

Michael A. Bumgarner, 28 Alexander Road, was charged in 2016 by the Vidalia Police Department for three incidents that allegedly happened in 2004, 2005 and 2009.

On Wednesday, Seventh Judicial Assistant District Attorney Joseph Boothe filed a bill of motions for a charge of third-degree rape. Boothe would not say from which incident the charge stems.

Boothe said the next step would be a trial of motions scheduled for Jan. 10. Boothe said Bumgarner’s attorney Philip LeTard indicated he would file motions.

Boothe said a trial date would be set at some point in the future, likely dependent on how the motions are resolved.

In 2016, one of the alleged victims came to Vidalia police and during an investigation two other victims were reportedly identified. The charges at the time were two counts of third-degree rape and sexual battery.

The youngest of the victims was 9 years old at the time of the alleged crime.  The other alleged victims were 14 and 15 at the time of the incidents.

Bumgarner in February pleaded not guilty to two counts of child fondling and possession of a stolen firearm in Adams County. The first charge stems from incidents alleged to have happened in July 2015 and February 2016. The second charge allegedly occurred in December 2016.

Both children involved were under 16 years of age.

Bumgarner was released from the Adams County Jail on an $80,000 bond in April following a motion for bond reduction. Bumgarner’s Adams County bond had been set at $200,000 in February.
